The Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 had the highest audience turnout. It is calculated that from July 19th up to August 3rd, more than 6.000.000 spectators visited the stadiums of the Russian capital.
During the 1988 Games in Seoul, the safety measures were without precedent. The stadiums were surrounded by thousands of policemen, while there was also contribution from the army. It is calculated, that proportionally, 8 policemen corresponded to each one of the 14.892 athletes and companions who participated in the Olympic Games of South Korea.

This happened in Sydney (2000), where the Australians had made sure that everything was ready several months ago, so that they could be better prepared. The Olympic Stadium was was ready 18 months prior to the entrance of the flame and its construction cost 690 million Australian dollars.
