For almost two centuries it is believed that Benjamin Franklin invented the lightning rod. It is currently an accepted fact. However it is absolutely certain, according to various ancient chroniclers, that Solomon's Temple had twenty four lightning rods.
No lightning ever struck this Temple. Physicists Francois Arago (18th century) explained the privilege of Solomon's Temple: "The roof of the Temple had beams of cedar which were covered by a thick layer of gilt, As the Italians made them, having a long iron or steel rods, sharp and gilded". They were intended to prevent the birds to sit on the roof and droppings of the church.
The Temple of Jerusalem, which remained intact for over a thousand years, could be famous for being the best example for the effectiveness of the lightning rod.
