Silent Bells are 30 handmade porcelain bells hanging silently, located in the Bristol Cathedral. They aim to capture a mood of calm and contemplation. The bells are unglazed, biscuit-fired, white porcelain. Each is the size of a teacup and is suspended from fine fishing-line, thus looking as if they are silently suspended in time and space.
15 are embossed with "XV" the age of Lyn Harradine's (the artist's) daughter when she was killed by a car. She began this year in 2009 when 15 silent years had passed without her daughter. The bells envelop strength, fragility, simplicity and love.
