The Bath Abbey Diptychs

Whilst attending a performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, Sue Symons conceived of a presentation of the life of Christ that would bring together her love of lettering, decoration and needlework. The work began in January 2006 and about 3000 hours later it was completed in January 2007.

Originally entitled "One Man's Journey to Heaven", the collection took on its additional name when purchased on behalf of the Abbey in 2007. Now they are also known as the Bath Abbey Diptychs, which is an awe-inspiring work of art and craft.

The life of Christ is depicted in 35 pairs of sumptuously decorated panels; a combination of needlework, hand-drawn lettering, illumination and calligraphy. The Diptychs are on display within the Abbey every year from February half-term until the Autumn half-term.
