Looking at the London Underground
map, a few years back, I was amazed to see that one train station is called
Cyprus, named after the island of Cyprus, located in the Eastern Mediterranean.
I always thought this was the case due to the fact that the island of Cyprus
was once part of the vast British Empire. However the small area to the north
side of the Royal Albert Dock took this name because the original owners traded
mainly with this island. The station was opened on 28 March 1994.
