A New Orthodox Church in Winchester

A new Orthodox Church and parish is being formed in the lovely city of Winchester, dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord. This new parish is under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Western and Southern Europe. It is a mission parish, consisting of Orthodox people of several ethnic backgrounds. The services are conducted in English, as a way to bring together all Orthodox Christians, and also in order to make the Orthodox tradition available to the people who were born in the UK.

The services will be celebrated at the chapel of the University of Winchester, which has been kindly made available by the University Chaplaincy. The parish has close links, through its priest, with the University of Winchester and its Orthodox Study Centre.
The priest of this new parish is Fr. Andreas Andreopoulos, who was ordained deacon by His Grace Ignatie, Assistant Bishop of Spain and Portugal, on the 29th of April 2012 in Glasgow. On the 20th of January 2013, he was ordained priest by His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph of Western and Southern Europe, in order to develop a mission parish in Winchester. He also teaches Orthodox Theology at the University of Winchester.
