Dionysios Solomos was the author
of the Greek National Anthem. Living in Zakynthos and hearing the battle at
Messologgi (on the mainland of Greece), he was inspired and he wrote the
National Anthem on a beautiful hill top, just 2 kilometres from the city of
Zakynthos, on the Strani Hill.
Currently there is a statue of
Solomos on the hill; however, that is where a tree existed. Under that tree,
the poet was inspired and wrote the Hymn to Freedom and other of his works. This
hill has a fantastic view of part of the island. The nature which embraces the
hill is breath-taking, making it a perfect spot for inspiration and creativity.
