In the middle of the picturesque
old village of Kakopetria, Cyprus, is located the Church of the Transfiguration
of Our Saviour. Built in 1520, it was the central church of the village until
1994. It is a rectangular church, being a Basilica in Byzantine ecclesiastical
architectural style.
The iconostasis is made of carved
wood, as well as the two chanters’ stands. Currently the Divine Liturgy is
celebrated in this church only 5-6 times. The Church celebrates on the 6th
August on the festivity of the Transfiguration of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
