St Nectarios lived in Aegina, a
small Greek island close to Athens. There, within the grounds of the monastery
where he lived, he is currently buried. Next to the old Church of the monastery
is located a large pine tree, known as the ‘Pine of the Tomb’ (Ο Πέυκος του Τάφου). Sister Anastasia planted this pine
in 1905. During the planting she heard a voice say ‘live space for a tomb’.
Before Saint Nectarios died, he loved this pine tree, located next to his small
apartment. After his death the monastery built a small Church, placing the
beautiful sarcophagus within it, allowing for the pilgrims to venerate it and
receive his blessing.
