The Peloponnesian Association of
Great Britain has the pleasure of inviting you on a day trip organised for the
31st 2015 to Brighton.
Arundel Castle is one of the
longest inhabited country houses in England. Many of the original features such
as the crenelated Norman keep, gatehouse and barbican and the lower part of
Bevis Tower survive. Between the 1870s and 1890s the house was almost
completely rebuilt and the magnificent architecture in Gothic style is
considered to be one of the great works of Victorian England. Enjoy the
grandeur of the finely preserved interior with its fascinating furniture,
tapestries and rare collection of paintings by renowned artists including Van
Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto.
There are attractive water
fountains, rills depicting the local river Arun and a small water grotto under
Oberon’s Palace. This amazing garden features stunning green oak Pagodas and
Oberon’s palace with its unique floating crown. David Williams (Daily Telegraph,
28 June 2013) wrote: ‘Your mood soars in the spectacular gardens. Most
exhilarating of all? The crown dancing magically on a splashing jet of water in
the Italianate, Collector Earl’s Garden…’
After a well-deserved, relaxing
lunch at the sea front, end your day at the Royal Pavilion, an exotic palace in
the centre of Brighton. Built as a seaside pleasure palace for George IV, this
historic house mixes Regency grandeur with the visual style of India and China.
