The Relics of the precious Cross @ St Demetrios Church, London

On the 17th May 2015 a significant event will take place at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Edmonton, North London. His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain will bring into the church three small pieces of the Holy Cross of Christ.

These relics of the Precious Cross have been granted to St Demetrios Church by His Beatitude Theophilos III Patriarch of Jerusalem and have been placed in the centre of a cross especially made to house them and which will remain indefinitely at the Church for the blessing and sanctification of the faithful.
Apart from the pieces of the Cross at the centre of the cross the other five relics in the cross are of: The Martrys of St Savvas monastery slain by the Persians in 614, New Martyr Philoumenos, James brother of the Lord, St John the Baptist, Great Martyr George the Trophy bearer with rock from the stone which enclosed the tomb of Christ and rock from Golgotha.

The short service of the reception of the Cross will take place at the end of Matins (at about 10 am) after which His Eminence the Archbishop will preside at the Divine Liturgy (10-12.30 pm). Following the Liturgy there will be souvlakia and other traditional Greek fare for sale in the church hall.
